Hanayama Enigma Cast Metal Puzzle
This is an
Extreme Puzzle
Description
Patented in America in 1975, the swirled pieces of this puzzle by Eldon Vaughn must be separtated and then put back together. This is without a doubt up there along with all the most difficult puzzles ever created. OK - so you can throw a needle in a haystack and call it a puzzle. But this is different -the solution is elegant, and as a result, the puzzle is excellent. Only for the hardcore puzzler with a bucket full of braincells.
Hanayama classify this as a level 6 puzzle. 1 being the easiest and 6 being the hardest.
We've put the solution video for you below.. but we know that you hardcore puzzlers won't bring yourselves to watch it!

Separate the elks and put them back together. Sounds simple doesn't it. Don't be fooled, this is one of the most extreme puzzles from the Hanayama range.

There are two approaches to this puzzle, neither of which are in any way easy to find. It is very difficult to unravel due to the bonds that hold this structure together. Another elegant cast puzzle from Hanayama

The Hanayama News cast puzzle is another of Nob Yoshigahara's classic creations. Unfortunately, saying anything about this Hanayama puzzles construction gives too much away.

Another elegant Hanayama puzzle. The Nutcase only has two aims, disassemble the puzzle by removing the small nut, then change the wording on the bolt from 'nut case' to 'case nut'. Sounds simple? Think again.

Solving this puzzle requires an especially subtle working of the pieces, the kind that often leaves the victim struggling in frustration. It’s a masterpiece.

Rated at 6 out of 6 in Hanayama's difficulty level.
First of all, let me say that I still haven't managed to solve this puzzle (although I only bought it last week).
I can see why its reputed to be one of the most difficult of the collection (although the Cast Nutcase puzzle could also have a claim to that), the first thing you have to work out is how on earth can the pieces begin to disentangle from each other.
Eventually, a keen eye spots two key features in the puzzle.
I think that I'm half way to solving it, but can't tell for sure.
I know there are youtube videos explaining the solution, but I refuse to look at them on principle.
As ever with Hanayama puzzles, the construction is very sturdy and durable. - Terry I've not yet comlpeted this brainteaser as I've only had it a couple of days. Arrived superquick in an attractive box well packaged. Puzzle is meant to be one of the most difficult in the collection. It's a disentanglement puzzle made of cast metal. The construction is very well made. If you're looking for something a bit easier, I would suggest the Hanayama Baroq Puzzle.
